I am so excited to announce that I’ve been selected as part of the first cohort for the Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) Academy.
I’ve already participated in the first webinar and the initial face-to-face session is April 22-23. The program will run through November. I can’t wait to tell you more about it once we get rolling.
The US Chamber Foundation also covers the cost for lodging while I am in Phoenix for training, which certainly is wonderful when it comes to budget.

In Honor of Military Saves Week, BBB Shares Money Tips and Financial Resources to Protect Military Families and Help Them Plan Their Future
Better Business Bureau (BBB) joins Military Saves for “Military Saves Week”, February 25 through March 2. Throughout the week BBB’s Military Line will offer education and information meant to motivate, support and encourage service members, military families, and veterans to save money, reduce debt and build wealth. BBB believes supporting financial readiness helps protect military consumers and their families.
Why does it matter? According to BBB Scam Tracker, service members, veterans and their families are more likely to be targeted for scams and lose 27 percent more money than the average consumer. Complaints by military consumers have risen by 30 percent and more than three out of four service members have financial worries. They are also two to three times more likely to exhibit unhealthy financial behaviors.
Organized by Military Saves, a partner in the Department of Defense’s Financial Readiness Campaign, BBB and thousands of organizations are encouraging the community to take the Military Saves pledge. The pledge is a commitment to exercise good financial habits, improve financial readiness and encourage other Americans to do the same.
Below are steps BBB recommends for military personnel and their families to help them achieve financial security:
Create a plan. Create a budget or spending plan for monthly expenses and plan to save for rent, utilities, and groceries. By including savings in a monthly budget military consumer’s are committing to paying a very important person…him or herself.
Set a savings goal. People save more when they have a goal in mind. Whether it is saving for retirement, an emergency or a child’s college education, one should keep a savings goal in mind.
Save automatically. Contribute to the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) and have a portion of every paycheck transferred into a retirement account, prior to being paid. Military members can set up allotments through an online myPay account and designate a specific amount to a separate account from basic checking – preferably a savings account.
Extra Tip: Tax time is a great opportunity to save for those who receive a refund. Visit SaveYourRefund to learn how saving at least $50 of your tax refund could win ones $25,000 in 2019!
Supporting Military Saves Week, BBB’s Military Line reminds military communities of free resources available through BBB’s across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Scam Awareness and Prevention Education – BBB teaches financial readiness classes at various military installations and veteran-resource centers.
Military Community Outreach – BBB attends and supports community fairs, conferences, and events, connecting with service members and veterans.
Data Collection – Via BBB Scam Tracker, BBB analyzes data received to help identify threats and the needs of our military community in the marketplace.
Complaint and Dispute Resolution – BBB helps military consumers resolve disputes by taking complaints at bbb.org/complaints and sharing issues affecting the military community at large.
The hospital ship USNS Comfort is on an 11-week medical support mission to Central and South America as part of U.S. Southern Command’s “Enduring Promise” initiative. We would like to give a shout out to one of our own who is on that mission: Hospitalman Jerusha Hainsworth, an amazing young woman.
Working with health and government partners in Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Honduras, Hainsworth is part of the embarked medical team that provides care on board and at land-based medical sites, helping to relieve pressure on national medical systems caused partly by an increase in cross-border migrants. Hainsworth is part of a deployment that reflects the United States’ enduring promise of friendship, partnership and solidarity with the Americas.
Her dad Darryl Hainsworth owns Havasu Barber Shop (next to Juicys) and is a proud papa and patriot. KNTR Talk and Radio Central thank Jerusha for her service and we look forward to welcoming you home!!

Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson and the commanding officer of USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), Cmdr. Micah Murphy, released statements Aug. 25 on the death of Senator and Navy veteran John S. McCain III who died Aug. 25 at age 81.
Statement by Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer:
“Today, the Navy and Marine Corps team lost a friend and one of our own when Senator John McCain passed.
“From the Naval Academy to flight school and throughout his time as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, McCain displayed unfailing honor and duty to country. If that was the end of his service, he would still be renowned as a hero, but McCain’s desire to serve didn’t stop when his uniform came off. He continued to serve as a representative and senator from Arizona. Throughout his life, McCain never ceased serving our nation or fighting for what he believed.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the McCain family, their friends and loved ones. Everyone on the Navy and Marine Corps team shares this loss with all who had the fortune of knowing Sen. John McCain.”
Statement by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson:
“The nation has lost a great patriot and warrior. Whenever we were in a tough spot, we knew Sen. McCain would be on our side with his characteristic toughness and integrity. The U.S. Navy mourns the loss of a true shipmate. Our prayers go with him and to his family, that they find consolation. May Sen. John McCain, who never flinched from a worthy fight, rest in a well-deserved peace.”
Statement by USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) commanding officer Cmdr. Micah Murphy:
“On behalf of the crew of USS John S. McCain, I offer our support and prayers to the McCain family, our gratitude to the senator for his years of service to our nation, and a heartfelt traditional Navy sendoff: ‘Fair winds and following seas.’ It is an honor to have our mighty warship carry on your name and continue your legacy.”
DDG-56’s name honors three generations of dedicated service to the Navy and nation. Sen. McCain’s father, Adm. John S. McCain, Jr. served as U.S. Pacific Command commander. Sen. McCain’s grandfather, Adm. John S. McCain was a distinguished World War II carrier task force commander.
Sen. McCain continued this proud legacy as a naval aviator during the Vietnam War. As a prisoner of war, he endured more than five years of captivity, representing America honorably and selflessly.
After retiring from the Navy, he continued national service in Congress, first as a representative and later as a senator from Arizona. Sen. McCain took an active interest in the destroyer and its crew, including a visit to the ship during a port visit to Cam Ranh International Port in Vietnam on June 2, 2017. The ship had visited ports in Vietnam several times before over the years in honor of the McCain legacy.
